Sumeet Kulkarni in Scientific American

Graduate student Sumeet Kulkarni has published a piece entitled “Mind the Mass Gap” in Scientific American’s Observations blog.

The 2019 Physics Nobel Prize

The 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics are awarded “for contributions to our understanding of the evolution of the universe and Earth’s place in the cosmos”, with one half to James Peebles “for theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology” and the other half jointly to Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz “for the discovery of an exoplanet orbiting a solar-type star.”

New Faculty Member: Dr. Gavin Davies

Dr. Gavin Davies has just joined us as an Assistant professor. Dr. Davies received a Ph.D. in Physics from Lancaster University (UK). He did postdoctoral research at Indiana University, where he worked with the NOvA experiment. Dr. Davies is an experimental elementary particle physicist. His research is primarily focused on Neutrino Physics. He was also the Chair of Fermilab Users Executive Committee.

Dr. Joel Mobley was promoted to Professor and Dr. Zhiqu Lu was promoted to Research Associate Professor.

Dr Hector Okada da Silva has been awarded the 2017 GWIC-Braccini Thesis Prize

The 2017 GWIC-Braccini Thesis Prize recognizes outstanding doctoral research in gravitational waves. Dr Hector Okada da Silva, who completed his Ph.D. at The University of Mississippi under the supervision of Dr. Emanuele Berti, was chosen for the award from a large, international group of nominees whose theses covered diverse aspects of the field of gravitational waves.
