Directions

A Word of Warning

Please note: if you are following along with a map, State Highway 6 is sometimes marked as US 278. However, you will not see any US 278 signs on the route.

From Memphis International Airport

Follow signs for I-240 from the airport. Take I-240 west (toward Downtown/Little Rock/St. Louis) to I-55 south (Exit 26, toward Jackson, Mississippi). At Batesville (Exit 243A), take Highway 6 east towards Oxford. After approximately 20 miles, exit at Chucky Mullins Drive and turn left. Turn right at the roundabout onto Hill Drive. Follow Hill Drive to the traffic barrier at All-American Way. Lewis Hall is the large building to the west, behind the Kennon Observatory.

From Jackson, Mississippi

Take I-55 north (toward Grenada and Memphis) to Batesville.

From the Delta (Greenville, Clarksdale, etc.)

Take US 82 east to I-55 and follow the directions for coming from Jackson, or take Highway 6 east from Clarksdale to Batesville and Oxford. Exit at Chucky Mullins Drive and turn left. Turn right at the roundabout onto Hill Drive. Follow Hill Drive to the traffic barrier at All-American Way. Lewis Hall is the large building to the west, behind the Kennon Observatory.

From Tupelo or Birmingham, Alabama

Take US 78 west toward Memphis. At Sherman, take Highway 9 south (Exit 76) towards Pontotoc and Oxford. After about 12 miles, turn right on Highway 76 west. Continue on Highway 76, which becomes Highway 6. In Oxford, exit at Chucky Mullins Drive (You should pass the Old Taylor Road exit, even though it is marked for the university) and turn right. Turn right at the roundabout onto Hill Drive. Follow Hill Drive to the traffic barrier at All-American Way. Lewis Hall is the large building to the west, behind the Kennon Observatory.

Parking

During the week, visitors now need a pass to park in Visitor Lots or spaces and need to get a parking permit, or you can park in metered spaces (See https://www.olemiss.edu/parking/visitors.html). If you schedule a visit in advance with our department we can arrange to supply you with a Visitor Pass.

Due to the closure of the center of campus to most traffic, parking is somewhat harder to come by on campus, particularly between 9 A.M. and 2 P.M. on weekdays. We also don’t recommend trying to visit the department on the weekends that home football games are scheduled (a schedule can be found at this website).
